5 tips to illuminate your garage
The garage is a space in the house for multiple tasks, storing vehicles, storing boxes with various household supplies, as a DIY workshop, or even as a bar or game room. Depending on the dimensions and the use that you give it, you should choose a type of lighting or another according to your needs. If you do not know how to do it, in this post we are going to give you 5 tips to illuminate your garage.
5 tips to illuminate your garage
1. Distribute the light according to the dimensions
There are garages of all sizes, from a smaller room for a vehicle to some single-family houses that can house several vehicles and shelves inside. The lighting must be according to these measurements, it is not the same to illuminate a space of 15 m² than one of 40. Ideally, you should install a light point every 2 m², that is, divide the surface into 2x2 squares and install in the center a point of light. Depending on the chosen power, whether it is a standard bulb, an LED, or low consumption bulb, these measurements may vary; but following that rule, you will make sure that your garage is well lit.
2. Choose a type of light according to use
Use white light if you use the garage for DIY work or as storage, it is less tiring for the eyes and it is ideal if we want to illuminate a place that is normally dark well. If, on the contrary, you use it as a games room, bar, or have a natural light entrance, you can opt for a neutral light that is more similar to that used in a living room or a room. In the following post, you can see three shades of light from the bulbs for your house.
3. Illuminate floors and walls
If we want to illuminate the access ramp to the garage we can choose to put lights on the ground, they will mark the way at night. You can also put light on the walls as a guide on the ramp. The advantage of this type of light is that they do not create shadow areas, therefore, combined with ceiling light, they will leave the garage fully illuminated and will be more practical when maneuvering or parking the vehicle. In this post, you can see how to install the types of LED lights at home.
4. Put motion sensors
Using motion sensors will avoid having to get out of the car to turn on the light when you enter the garage. In addition, these lights incorporate a timer so you make sure that they will turn off even if you forget to press the switch. Think that, at night, if you leave a light on, it is normal not to realize it until the next morning with the energy expenditure that this entails. You can also opt for bulbs with a motion detector for which you do not need to install any sensor, just change your old bulb for this type.
5. Opt for savings
It is not only important that the garage is well lit but that this lighting is efficient and causes the least possible energy expenditure. Depending on the family members or the use that we give it, the garage can be a great expense, for example, using it as a storage room may have to turn the light on and off several times a day. Using LED or energy-saving bulbs will help you save on the bill. You can see an example in the project shared by user MiguelAngelB in which he teaches us how to save in the garage: switch to LED tubes.
If you have changed or installed the lights in your garage you can share them with us in our Projects section and if you have any questions about how to illuminate a garage or any other room in the house, you can open a thread of conversation in our Forums where we will be delighted to help you.
